Sacramento Rotary is the GOAT, no cap! Our luncheon was packed with excitement, featuring the latest slang, Sacramento Century updates, and news from the Sacramento Metro Chamber.

Rhonda Poppen shared the thought of the day focused on life lessons she gleaned from escorting two World War II veterans on an honor flight – living in the moment, being humble, and adapting to change. Her story embodied the Rotary values of goodwill and better friendship.

President Bobby quizzed our members on the latest slang “the kids” are using these days. Want to impress your child or grandkid? No worries—we’ve made a cheat sheet for you!

Word What we Thought it Was What it Actually Means
Sus Suspicious Suspicious
GOAT Four-legged farm animal The Greatest of All Time
Bruh Bro Bro
Ohio A US state Kind of weird
Gyat We immediately gave up Strong excitement/surprise
Rizz Charisma Charisma
Fanum Tax A hidden tax Stealing your friend’s food
Cap A bottle top Lie
Mewing The sound a cat makes “Looks Maxing” in a photo
Slay Killin it Killin it

Shockingly, we actually got four of the ten correct!

Afterwards, we celebrated each other during the “Put Me In, Coach!” segment of our lunch. Megan Laurie’s daughter just turned 16 and now drives a scooter to school—saving Megan some gas! President-Elect Kerry Wood and Bhavnesh Makin both celebrated their wedding anniversaries, while injured John Swentowsky paid the price for a miserable pun about doing DIY stitches on his recent hike: “Suture self.” Wishing his intellect a speedy recovery!

On a fact-finding mission, Robert is determined to identify areas for improvement and understand the needs of Sacramento’s businesses to help them thrive.
