Rotary’s Response to COVID-19

Our board of directors voted to focus our discretionary community grants funding on providing rental assistance to those who are newly in need due to financial challenges brought on by the pandemic. While we remain concerned about those who are currently unsheltered, especially with winter here, our goal is to invest the funds at our disposal to prevent more people from becoming homeless. Our motivation is the belief that the loss of shelter, possessions and dignity is vastly more costly to those individuals and to society than investing in them before becoming unsheltered.

After thoroughly vetting the local nonprofits who provide emergency rental assistance, our board approved our first grant of $2500 to Volunteers of America (VOA) to help Susan, the widow of a veteran who recently passed away, and her 19 year-old son. Learn more about how the Rotary Club is helping Susan and how Rotary Club international is responding to COVID.

Working Together for Peace & Justice

At Rotary, we have no tolerance for racism. Promoting respect, celebrating diversity, demanding ethical leadership, and working tirelessly to advance peace are central tenets of our work.

We have more work to do to create more just, open and welcoming communities for all people.

We know there are no easy fixes and that challenging conversations and work lie before all of us. Rotary’s strength has long been our ability and commitment to bringing people together. We will tap into that strength now as we stand with those who are working for peace and justice.

Rotary will do our part to listen, learn and take action to ensure that we continue to contribute to making positive change.
